Mr. Hooker was born in Baltimore, Maryland. A commercial pilot by profession, his aviation career began at seventeen by flying small single-engine airplanes for pleasure and business. His journey to the “Heavy Metal” allowed him the opportunity to experience many areas of the country. Twenty-five years ago Mr. Hooker brought his family to Mesa, Arizona, to fly for America West Airlines (now UsAirways, soon to be the New American). He is currently a Captain on the Airbus 319, 320, and 321 aircraft.
Music has always been an important part of his life. If he wasn’t paying the bills in an airplane, he was playing the piano, singing, or directing. Ken’s singing began in high school when he sang in the Maryland All-State Choir and American Youth Performs - a showcase for High School students from all over the eastern US. Mr. Hooker founded and directed Young Christian Singers, a traveling madrigal group that performed in many churches throughout the Mid-Atlantic states. He has performed with The Baltimore Symphony Chorus, and the Philadelphia Philharmonic. Ken has also performed in the casts of “Wonderful Town”, “Anything Goes”, and “Little Mary Sunshine”, and conducted pit bands, and orchestras for “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Anything Goes”.
Mr. Hooker has studied piano with Dr. Walter Cosand and Conducting with Dr. Timothy Russell, Dr. Ronald Staheli, and Rosalind Hall. He and his wife, Ramona have raised their four children in the East Valley. They currently reside in Mesa.
